Aalborg Zoo Gains Valuable Insights with Business Intelligence

Aalborg Zoo has implemented a Business Intelligence solution from Virkplan, and they are very satisfied with the results. The solution enables, among other things, more accurate staff planning, and allows them to continuously monitor visitor numbers and sales across the park.

Louise Ramlov Haugaard, Head of Administration at Aalborg Zoo, explains:

“We already had a BI solution in place that didn’t really work for us, so we knew what we were looking for when we contacted Virkplan. Virkplan has understood our business very well, and we quickly had a solution up and running on their platform. We can now see how many guests are in the park at 15-minute intervals, what guests are purchasing in the shops, and the total revenue from retail sales. This allows us to continuously measure our performance against the budget.”

Reporting for Management and the Board

Louise Ramlov Haugaard continues:

“We can also see which days attract the most visitors to the park, enabling us to prepare staff resources, procurement, and food production much more effectively. Reporting to the management team and the board has also become much easier, as key figures are always available through the reports that have been set up. It’s honestly hard to find anything to be dissatisfied with.”

User Permissions Tailored to Each Employee

Louise Ramlov Haugaard is also responsible for managing user permissions in the system:

“It’s a great advantage that I can grant employees access to the system with different user rights, so they don’t receive information they don’t need. This makes the solution user-friendly and easy to work with. I also think the design is very good—it’s easy to access and easy to understand, which means employees quickly get started using the system. Overall, our collaboration with Virkplan is excellent, and we also plan to take advantage of the opportunity for more in-depth training in the system, so we can handle future reporting needs to a greater extent ourselves,” Louise Ramlov Haugaard concludes.
