Virkplan Develops Grant Management System for Region Nord

The North Denmark Region aims to make it easier to transition a patient from the hospital to their home in relation to the products the patient needs to take with them. Today, this procedure is handled manually, which is time-consuming and involves a higher risk of errors.

For this reason, the North Denmark Region has entered into an agreement with Virkplan to develop a grant management system, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2023. Virkplan’s subscription-based business platform will serve as the foundation of the system, on top of which a 100% customized solution will be built and integrated into the electronic patient record.

The new solution will ensure that the grant follows the patient and, through integration with the procurement system, that the correct products are included in the deliveries the patient receives at home. In this way, the solution will both support the patient and make workflows easier and more secure for hospital staff.

In the longer term, a solution will also be developed for ordering products for use in the home, which can be handled either by the patient themselves or by home care services.

A Strong User Experience

The system will also enable statistical reporting and more professional management of patient consumption. This will provide a significantly improved overview of costs—both overall and at the individual patient level.

Susanne Nielsen, Center Director in the North Denmark Region, states:

“Based on an innovation fund issued by the North Denmark Region, we have received funding to develop a grant management system that will make it easier to transition a patient from the hospital to their home. We have entered into an agreement with Virkplan to develop the system for us, and one of the reasons we chose them is their use of UX consultants and their strong focus on user experience and the real-world context in which the system will be used. I find that extremely important. At the same time, they focus on keeping things simple rather than overcomplicating processes. That is very positive. We are also involved throughout the project via ongoing status meetings, which allow us to address challenges along the way.”

Reduced Administrative Costs

Susanne Nielsen continues:

“For me, this is about helping the region reduce administrative costs and making it easier and more satisfying for hospital staff to transition a hospital patient into a home patient. The need for this is increasing in these years, as we are seeing more and more home-based patients. My hope is that the system will be as easy and intuitive to use as MobilePay, and that hospital staff will experience a real relief in their daily workflows within a more secure system.”
